Very Heavy Snow Headed For Central & Southern Vermont

Local Update...
Heavy Snow, With Visibilities To Near Zero Being Reported Across Western And Central New York...

That National Weather Service in Burlington has upgraded the Winter Weather Advisory to a Winter Storm Warning for Addison, Washington, and Orange Counties in Vermont, and Essex County in New York for the potential of 4-8 inches of snow. The National Weather Service in Burlington has also issued a Winter Weather Advisory for areas North of the Warning area. JRWeather has also upgraded the Winter Weather Advisory to a Warning across Windsor, and Western Rutland Counties. I have not issued any new warning or advisory posts, everything remains the same except what I mention here. Snow totals also remain the same for the warning area, this include the new areas mentions above that are in the warning. View maps below to see what alert if any your county is under.

A very impressive storm is underway, if you look at the infrared satellite image below, you can see the absolutely impressive moisture and lift within this system. Reports from the Buffalo international airport report Heavy Snow, blowing snow, and windy with visibilities to near zero. Winds are gusting to 36MPH there. Heavy snow is also being reported in Geneva, Elmira, Ithica, Syracuse, Fulton, and Niagara Falls, NY among many other places. Moderate Snow is being reported in Watertown, Fort Drum, and Albany, NY among other places. Temperatures are pretty much in the teens which is helping aid in a good fluff factor of the snow, which is allowing it to pile up fast. Radar is indicating that snow could be falling at a rate of up to 3 inches per hour across Western New York. This area of snow is rapidly spreading east-Northeast. Road conditions will become impossible across Central, and Southern Vermont, especially in the heavier snows. Visibilities will be down to a quarter mile or less with rapidly accumulating snows, this hold especially true for the Winter Storm Warning area. Right now though for our region light to moderate snow is beginning to fall across most of the area except along the international border, and Northeastern/ North central Vermont. At this point everything seems to be on track, just a slight adjustment to expand the Warning, and Warning snowfall amounts a bit further north. However a very strong area of arctic/ drier air is holding tight along the Northern portions of New York, and Vermont. Infact here in Swanton the temperature has fallen to 3.9F above zero, and continues to slowly drop!! This would indicate that snow will likely not amount to much here. Although what does fall will likely have a 20:1 ratio, so it wont take much to get a couple inches. So my forecast for this area remains in good shape. The storm should rapidly taper off by tonight, and have all but ended by 10AM tomorrow morning, if not sooner. Please feel free to send me your snowfall reports, and observations throughout the storm. View maps below for updated alerts, and accumulations. Also check out the infrared satellite image! IMPRESSIVE!

An update on Sundays storm coming up this evening, Winter Storm Watches will likely be required for Sundays storm, later today.
