JRWeather Has Issued A Flood Advisory For Northern New York, and Western Vermont, Excluding Grand Isle County. This Alert Is In Effect Until 12AM Tuesday...

JRWeather has issued a Flood Advisory for Western Vermont, and Northern New York, for minor low lying/ field flooding, as well as small brooks, creeks, and streams.
Warm temperatures west of the green mountains and strong winds aided in the significant melting of 4-9 inches of snow across the region. Only trace amounts to as much as 2 inches is left on the ground. This snowmelt combined with a tenth of an inch to locally one half inch of rain has led to enough runoff to cause high flows on area creeks, and streams. From Fairfield to East Fairfield, sharp rises on the Black creek along Route 36 have been reported, smaller streams feeding into the Black creek have been reported out of there banks, with low land/ field flooding occurring. In Bakersfield, VT the Branch Brook along East Bakersfield Rd is beginning to over flow its banks leading to low land/ field flooding. Also areas where culverts and drainage systems are plugged due to remaining snow and ice, will see rapid rises in drainage ditches along road sides, which could lead to water over flowing onto the road. This will also produce some areas of ponding water on roadways. This will be a likely situation across much of Western Vermont, and Northern New York.
As a cold front sweeps through the region, temperatures will fall overnight, and drop below freezing this will help to end runoff into area waterways, ending the lowland/ field flooding threat. As always though if you live near an area waterway just keep an eye on its level. A Flood advisory is issued for minor low lying/ field flooding, significant ponding of water on roadways, and nuisance flooding is likely, or occuring. Stay tuned for any further updates.
