More Winter Storms Expected Through Christmas...
The National Weather Service in Albany, NY has issued a Winter Storm Watch for Bennington, and Windham County for the potential of 7-14 inches of snow. JRWeather has issued a Winter Storm Watch for Rutland, Windsor, Bennington, and Windham Counties in Southern Vermont for the potential of 6-12 inches of snow with locally higher amounts, especially across the southeast upslope areas of the far southern green mountains.
SEE PREVIOUS POST FOR WINTER ALERT DETAILS!!
A low pressure system is forecasted to race across the country from the Southwest United states, and bring some heavy snow to the region. Snow will begin late Thursday night through the overnight hours, and fall heavy at times on Friday. Total snow accumulations should be in the 6-12 inch range. Snowfall totals will vary greatly from north to south. Across Rutland and Windsor Counties around 6 inches may fall, but across Southern Bennington, and Windham Counties as much as 12 inches of snow could fall before all is said and done. For the Capital district of new york, they could end up with 14 or more inches of snow before the storm ends! For Northern and Central Vermont, as Well as Northern New York, this snow storm does not look to be in the cards for us this time. Only a Trace to as much as 3 inches is likely for this area by the time the storm ends Late Friday Night, or Early Saturday Morning. This storm will have a very sharp cut off to the north, due to strong high pressure trying to push east-southeast. Any shift in the track of the low pressure could mean significantly more or less snow.
The Next in a series of storm will occur Sunday night into Monday night. This storm will likely be significant for the entire area, as a low pressure system will move from the center of the country northeast towards western new york, and then transfer/ redevelop off the southern New England Coast. The early model indications suggest as much as 6-12 inches of snow could fall, but this is quite a time away, so we will wait to write that in stone. Especially the way this year has been going.
Then the NEXT storm looks like it will be one that the northeast can call the "Christmas Nor'easter" Models have been rather consistent in showing this storm system, but the real storm remains to be seen, this storm if current indications were to hold true, would also produce some very significant snow for the region, however this is not written in stone as well. Eitherway, stay tuned for further updates on these developing winter weather events. Snowfall accumulation map below! Don't forget to check the previous post for all alert details, and alert maps.
