Light Snow, Sleet, & Freezing Rain The Next Several Hours

Local Update...
A Wintry Mix Will Continue For A Few More Hours Before Tapering Off Across The Region. Amounts Should Remain Light...

National Weather Service Doppler Radar, and current observations around the region indicate an area of light mixed precipitation is occurring across much of the region. The back edge of this precipitations is along the spine of the Adirondack mountains. So the St. Lawrence Valley of New York should be done with the precipitation for tonight. Across the international border, precipitation is falling as light snow, but just several miles south of the border it is a sleet/ freezing rain mix, with mainly freezing rain across Southern portions of Vermont. This precipitation however is light. There is no need for any Advisories, and conditions should improve after 3AM across much of the region. Some areas may witness localized ice accumulations of around a tenth inch, and localized snow accumulations around a half inch. Other then that, all precipitation should remain as trace amounts only. No maps will be issued for this event. Do use caution however as there will be isolated slick spots on untreated roadways overnight.

There is an increasing chance of a more significant storm system for Tuesday Night, through Wednesday Night. Models however have weakened this storm significantly over the past few runs, and this storm will track similar to many of the storms we have had this season, and last season (West of the Appalachian Mountains). It should be mainly snow this time around, with some sleet mixing in to the north, and the potential for freezing rain to the south. This storm will likely need to be covered by a Winter Weather Advisory, and possibly Watches/ Warnings for northern portions, especially the western slopes of the green mountains. At this time though it looks like snow totals will range area wide from 3-9 inches with locally higher amounts. Details, and better snowfall accumulations will be provided tomorrow, as I will wait for a couple more model runs, before setting it in stone. Stay tuned.
