Waterspouts Form Over Lake Champlain In January

Local Update...
Arctic Air & Extreme Lake Instability Causes Significant Rotation Over Lake Champlain In January...

I will admit I was a bit surprised by this one, I did not know this could happen. The National Weather Service confirmed in an article they issued yesterday, that on January 15th, 2009 at least two waterspouts formed over Lake Champlain. Images courtesy of the National Weather Service show the Waterspout(s) over Lake Champlain. The person who took the picture was viewing the Waterspouts from Essex, NY looking east towards Vermont. The Waterspouts are also known as Arctic waterspouts, and have been witnessed in other places around the world. Although rare, they do happen.
