I just wanted to take a moment, and thank the people who left me comments. I now realize I may have been a bit harsh on myself, but what made me feel like I failed the most was the fact, that I was not just predicting a significant winter storm, but I had predicted an historic storm. But with the mistakes I made, I have learned. A few things that I will try to work on is trying to keep my enthusiasm down on a storm, which occasionally can lead to hype. Although I am not the type to hype, on a forecast, As I have undercut National Weather Service forecasted accumulations on occasion. Hyping the possibilities, and hyping a forecast are completly different.
From now on, if a storm looks like its going to be historic, then I will wait to say such a thing until models are within the 84 hour range. However I wont refrain from mentioning the potential of a Significant storm, in any time frame. If I see a potential storm 180 hours out, I'll mention it, and give my opinion. But as far as calling a storm historic, I will wait until we are at least 3 or 4 days out. Knowing a storm may be coming several days in advance is one thing, but forecasting a historic storm 4+ days out is pointless. As long as my viewers know a storm is coming, that's all the matters. The details of how significant it will be can be ironed out in the days to come.
So with all that said, I want to thank you all once again for supporting me, and not allowing me to give up. With that in mind I will better my service for all of you by waiting to call a storm historic. But continue to still forecast future storms. If that at all made sense. I am tired, and headed to bed. Thanks again to everyone!
P.S. A nice break from winter will be upon us starting Friday. Although clouds and some light precipitation at times, it will at least be warming up for a bit. Highs are expected to be near 40 both Saturday and Sunday. And continue to stay around the Freezing mark into next Tuesday. Although not sunny and incredibly warm. It will at least be a break from the arctic air. But I will warn everyone, winter is not over yet! =]]
